Set in 2002 in the village of Uppada near Kakinada, Raayanam is an influential zamindar who goes to any extent to protect his family’s reputation. His daughter Sangeetha, nicknamed Bebamma is a college student whom he fiercely protects. Raayanam plans to build a shipyard in his village by demolishing fishermen’s houses on the beach. Aasi is the son of one such fisherman, Jalayya, and is a Dalit Christian. He falls head over heels for Bebamma. Bebamma also falls in love with Aasi after watching him fight in the bazaar. Aasi follows Bebamma every day on the way to her college by bus. One day, the bus breaks down and the driver asks Aasi to drop Bebamma, the only passenger of the bus, at the college. Later, the couple begins to meet every day on the beach and soon fall in love.
Meanwhile, the spawning season of the fish is coming and no one is allowed to enter the sea for more than a month and a half. Bebamma, however, asks Aasi to take her to the beach, which he obliges. As the boat runs out of fuel, they become stranded at sea. That same night, Raayanam orders to search the houses on the beach but is worried that his daughter has not returned home. Raayanam meets Jalayya secretly and asks him to find his missing daughter, in exchange, his house will be saved. Aasi and Bebamma spend the night together on the boat intimately. Jalayya finds them next morning and orders Aasi. He returns Bebamma to her father but lies that she was found alone on the ship.
Raayanam, however, is determined to find a partner for Bebamma. He finds a shirt in Bebamma’s wardrobe to follow her as Aasi. Raayanam’s men attack Aasi and her father in the village mela, and Jalayya dies in the conflict. The next day, Bebamma runs away from her house and asks Aasi to come with her. He reluctantly agrees, and they board a train to Odisha on the run from Raayanam’s men. From there, the couple goes to Kolkata, and later to Gangtok. Aasi takes up odd jobs and keeps Bebamma in the hostel until they move in together.
Several months pass. Raayanam promised his sister that his son will marry Bebamma within six months. Whenever Bebamma is away, Raayanam and his men pretend that she is there to save his family’s honor. Almost six months after her elopement, Aasi promises to marry Bebamma and takes her to the railway station. There, Raayanam’s men kidnap Bebamma and return her to her father. Bebamma confesses to Raayanam that she slept with Aasi that night on the boat and asks him to release her. But Raayanam is adamant that he will never allow his daughter to marry a low-class person, which he considers shameful. He says it was Aasi who explained their location to him. Raayanam also reveals that he physically robbed Aasi by cutting off his penis and his father dying of a heart attack seeing that the night before Bebamma and Aasi went out. Raayanam believes that he will not return to Aasi because he has lost his manhood. However, Bebamma loves
